PLEASE TELL US… What do you think is the relationship between AI and TRIZ? Is TRIZ a 20th century early version of AI? I doubt it because TRIZ is about wisdom and knowledge and AI is about patterns of data, but I could be wrong as TRIZ has taught me to always question my first assumptions. Altshuller’s TRIZ community plotted the knowledge patterns of published, clever problem solving and abstracted them into 4 lists. Applying these, the TRIZ solution concepts, supplemented with our relevant experience, helps us to locate to the best solutions to tough problems. This requires more than AI, as it needs your teams’ human intelligence, wisdom, and knowledge. AI plays its role in TRIZ by providing an efficient way to locate existing, but unfamiliar, analogous solutions.

TRIZ is more ZELINSKY than Putin as it began in a Siberian Gulag in the late 1940s by the imprisoned dissident Genrich Altshuller. It has a rich and fascinating history which helps us better understand how TRIZ was developed.
Too young for WW2 Altshuller joined the Soviet Navy and in its aftermath analysed the inevitable technical advances war brings. While working in the Baku patent department he began to formalize TRIZ when he identified how frequently inventors unknowingly duplicate each other’s work.
This research showed that there are only about 100 fundamental ways to solve any problem. Altshuller and his teams gave us these solution triggers three overlapping lists plus the amazing TRIZ effects database. Read on to find out about Altshuller and how TRIZ began.
